The links below contain licensure information for specific positions within a school district:

School Administrator
An individual who holds a standard Wyoming Educator License may apply to add a School Administrator Endorsement to his/her license.  This endorsement is valid for five years.  An individual who holds this endorsement is eligible to serve as an administrator or superintendent in any Wyoming school in accordance with his or her level of preparation.
The following School Administrator endorsements are offered by PTSB:
  • District Superintendent
  • School Principal
  • Program Director
Requirements for an Administrator Endorsement:
  • You must hold Wyoming Licensure in a teaching field
  • You must have completed an educational leadership program, from a nationally or regionally accredited college/university, which leads to an Institutional Recommendation in Educational Leadership, School Principal, Educational Administrator, or other endorsement area equivalent to the endorsement level you are seeking
  • Educators with a current Wyoming Educator License must submit the Add Endorsement Application
Educators who are applying concurrently for Initial Licensure and a School Administrator endorsement must submit a complete Application for Initial, First-time Licensure AND Section III of the Add Endorsement Application.

“What if I would like to apply for a job in a Wyoming school district, but I have not yet completed my program of study?  Can I get emergency or provisional licensure so that I can apply?”

No.  However, you may apply for the position of interest as an internship position through your college/university program.  You must coordinate directly with the district and your college/university to determine the terms of the internship, and you must submit the standard Permit Application, meeting all requirements under the Two-year Internship Permit option.

School Nurse

As of March of 2018, PTSB no longer issues a license or permit for School Nurses. If an individual holds an Registered Nurse (RN) License with the Wyoming Board of Nursing, then they can serve in Wyoming schools. However, if the individual is instructing students, they must be certified with PTSB and would need to apply for our Professional, Industry, and Careers (PIC) Permit. Additional information regarding the PIC Permit and the requirements can be found in our Permit Application packet.

Please note that any individual who holds a current Standard License, School Nurse Permit, or a Substitute School Nurse can continue to renew their license or permit. If there are any questions, please do not hesitate to contact our office and speak with a Licensing Specialist.

Renewal Requirements
Courses that require less than seven (7) clock hours cannot be used toward renewal credits. For complete details on renewing an educator license, please review the Renewals Page.

RN License Status with the Wyoming Board of Nursing
School Nurses must maintain current licensure with the Wyoming Board of Nursing. Note the renewal period for the RN license is only two (2) years.

School Counselor

A Wyoming Educator License with a Professional Services Endorsement for School Counselor is valid for 5 years.

Requirements
An Institutional Recommendation indicating completion of a Master’s degree in School Counseling

“If I have a degree in School Counseling, am I also eligible to apply for positions in related fields such as School Psychologist or School Social Worker?”

No. Wyoming statute requires individuals serving in these fields to hold a Master’s degree in that particular field of specialization.

“What if I already have a license with the Mental Health Professions Licensing Board?”

In the State of Wyoming, Related Services Personnel are permitted to be hired by a school district if they hold a current and valid Wyoming license in their own profession (W.S. Statute 21-02-802 (a)(i)). Therefore if you hold a license from the Mental Health Professions Licensing Board, any district may hire you on the basis of that license. However, many districts still require a PTSB license for employment. If your hiring district requires you to be licensed and endorsed as a School Counselor through PTSB, please review the licensure requirements above to determine your eligibility.

School Psychologist

A Wyoming Educator License with a Professional Services Endorsement for School Psychologist is valid for 5 years.

Requirements
An Institutional Recommendation indicating completion of an Educational Specialist degree in School Psychology

“If I have a degree in School Psychology, am I also eligible to apply for positions in related fields, such as School Counselor or School Social Worker?”

No. Wyoming statute requires individuals serving in these fields to hold a Master’s degree in that particular field of specialization.

Speech Pathologist

Effective July 1, 2020, Senate File 0087, or Enrolled Act 59 Audiology and speech-language pathology compact, was signed into law March 24, 2020, and becomes effective July 1, 2020. It adopts the Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology Interstate Compact which allows the practice of audiology and speech-language pathology (SLP) across state lines. The law also provides for fingerprinting and background checks of license applicants and sets out renewal requirements.

The law repealed a section [W.S 33-33-104(a)(iii)] of the previous statute that allowed the Professional Teaching Standards Board (PTSB) to license SLPs to practice only in public schools or in programs for the developmentally disabled funded by the Department of Health. PTSB conducted fingerprinting and background checks of these applicants. For decades SLPs were licensed to work in school districts by meeting different minimum requirements. Those requirements were changed in statute around 2008. Minimum education requirements were then changed from a Bachelor’s degree to a Master’s degree or its equivalent.

The Board of Examiners of Speech-Language Pathology & Audiology (SLP Board) will be the only licensing body for SLPs and Audiologists effective July 1, 2020. All SLP licensed through PTSB will become null and void on July 1, 2020, regardless of the current validity
dates of the PTSB license.

For licensure as an SLP, please contact the Wyoming Board of Examiners of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology.

School Tutor

PTSB does not issue any specific endorsements for school tutors. Wyoming only requires that the tutor hold a PTSB Standard Educators license

It is up to the hiring district to decide on the assignment of that tutor.

Instructional Facilitator

PTSB does not issue endorsements for instructional facilitators. Wyoming Statutes previously listed eligibility requirements for these positions, but those statutes were repealed in 2017. It is up to the district to decide on the qualifications and assignment of instructional facilitators.

Paraprofessional

PTSB does not issue any specific license or permit for paraprofessionals. Each district determines their own requirements for this position. Our recommendation is that you contact the district that you are interested in and discuss the requirements of the paraprofessional position with them directly.
