Professional Teaching Standards Board

The Professional Teaching Standards Board (PTSB) is an independent professional licensing board that governs teacher licensure in the state of Wyoming. PTSB is responsible for evaluating the credentials of both current and prospective educators to ensure that all students are served by competent and ethical educators.  Licenses are issued based on review and verification of applicants’ preparation and continuing professional development.

The Professional Teaching Standards Board (PTSB) was created by the Wyoming legislature in 1993. It was established as an independent professional board to support educators in monitoring their own profession. Wyoming is one of 12 states with an autonomous educator licensing board. PTSB is overseen by the Governor’s office and the legislature and is separate from the Wyoming Department of Education. The legislature authorizes PTSB to promulgate rules and regulations to license educators, set fees, revoke or suspend licenses, and approve educator preparation programs.
