Coaching Permit Requirements

A Coaching Permit is for Non-Licensed individuals. If you currently hold an Educator License, you must apply to add a Coaching Endorsement to your Educator License (see Coaching Endorsement Requirements).

Coaching Permits are offered in the following areas:
Basketball
Football
Golf
Skiing
Soccer
Softball
Swimming
Tennis
Track/Cross Country
Volleyball
Wrestling

Applying for a Coaching Permit—For NON-LICENSED Educators ONLY

In order to apply for a Coaching Permit, you must meet ALL of the requirements listed below. (These requirements are in addition to all general application requirements). If you do not meet all the requirements, you may be eligible to apply for a Transitional Coaching Permit.

Coaching

High School Diploma or GED

Current 1st Aid/CPR Training
3.
Prevention and Care of Athletic Injuries
4.
Foundations of Coaching
5.
Two (2) Year of Experience as a Coach at the middle or high school level

Theory of Coaching the Specific Sport
7.
US & WY Constitution

NOTE: Any Coaching Permit holder can only be a head coach for the specific sport(s) listed on their permit, but may also be assigned as an assistant coach in any sport.
Does PTSB accept credits/courses from the Wyoming Coaches Association’s Summer Clinic to meet the above requirements?

Yes. Wyoming Coaches Association.

Is there anywhere else outside of the Wyoming Coaches Association that can go to meet the requirement for the Prevention and Care of Athletic Injuries?

Yes. You can meet this through Sports Medicine Pro’s.

Are there courses online to meet the Fundamentals of Coaching and the Theory of Specific Sports?

Yes. You can meet these requirements through the National Federation of State High School Associations.

Where can I find online courses for professional development to renew my Coaching Permit?

The National Federation of State High School Associations offers online courses that PTSB accepts for renewal credits.
